THE NOT PHOTO ISSUE
VICE Magazine returns to newsstands with The Not The Photo Issue, a 184-page special dedicated to the role of images in contemporary culture.
At the heart of the issue is a simple and urgent question: which images are most influencing our present and why?
Key contributions include a lengthy conversation between documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis and art critic Dean Kissick about the future of politics, technology, media, and culture. The issue also brings together reports, essays, and photographic portfolios that explore some of the contradictions of the contemporary world, from the tensions of the culture war in the United Kingdom to the musical subcultures of South Africa, to new digital phenomena and the transformations of the online imagination.
Completing the issue are texts by Bertie Brandes, Gabriel Smith, and Günseli Yalcinkaya, photographic portraits by Andrew Miksys of Roma youth in Lithuania, and an artistic project by Arvida Byström and Emma Stern that reflects on female ideals in the digital age.
Between journalism, photography, cultural criticism, and visual experimentation, this new chapter from VICE confirms the approach that has made the magazine an international reference for those seeking stories, ideas, and perspectives outside the mainstream.
