Camera Austria / 148
Camera Austria, a photography journal since 1979, explores the interplay of text and imagery, merging theory and visual practice. Initially centered on photography, its scope broadened to cultural and visual studies, urban research, and more. Symposia held since the early years fostered diverse perspectives, blending theory with artistic expression. A 2018 symposium delved into "The Violence of Images." This issue is designed as a text and theory focus, reflecting current interests in visual cultures, encompassing art photography amidst crises, censorship, revolutionary representation, racialized imagery, and more. The team values in-depth understanding amidst a fast-paced information era, embracing the collision of images and words to promote thought and potential political action. The issue includes diverse contemporary art photography curated in collaboration with influential contributors.
